How should I burn my candle for the first time?

On the first burn, allow the wax to melt evenly across the surface of your candle before extinguishing it. This helps encourage an even burn and reduces the chance of tunnelling.

Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface and never leave a burning candle unattended.

Do I need to trim the wooden wick?

Yes. Before each burn, make sure your wooden wick is trimmed to approximately 5mm and remove any loose or charred wood before lighting.

Keeping the wick properly trimmed helps maintain a steady flame and cleaner burn.

How long will my candle burn?

My refillable pottery candles provide approximately 70–90 hours of burn time with proper candle care.

Burn time can vary depending on how the candle is used and cared for.

How long should I burn my candle at a time?

Allow enough time for the wax to melt evenly across the surface of your candle.

Avoid burning your candle for extended periods, and always allow the pottery and wax to cool completely before relighting.

Are your candles handmade?

Yes. Every Manchester Candle Makers candle is hand-poured by me in small batches in Manchester using 100% natural soy wax and a wooden wick.

My pottery vessels are designed by Manchester Candle Makers and individually handmade by a local potter in Salford.

Can I refill my pottery candle?

Absolutely — that's what it was designed for.

Once your candle has finished, clean the pottery vessel thoroughly and allow it to dry completely. You can then simply drop in one of my ready-made soy wax candle refills, complete with its own wooden wick.

Choose Northern Lights, Glow or Joy, or one of my seasonal fragrances when available.

Do I need to send my pottery back for a refill?

No. There's no need to send your pottery back to me.

My ready-made refills are specially made to fit Manchester Candle Makers pottery vessels, so once your vessel is clean and completely dry, you can simply drop your new refill in at home.

Can I collect an order or refill from you at a market?

Yes. If you'd like to collect an order or request a freshly made refill from one of my regular markets, get in touch with me before ordering and I'll arrange it with you directly.

Are the pottery pieces all identical?

No — and that's part of their character.

Every piece is individually handmade, so slight variations in shape, texture and glaze are completely natural. No two pieces will be exactly alike.

How should I care for my candle?
